March Favourites 2017 + Giveaway!

Does anyone else feel like March lasted forever? It’s one of those months that never seems to end. But now, it’s April (my birthday month yay!) so here are my March Favourites! The best part of March being so long is that I got to try out a bunch of things for a while and fully enjoy them. I’ve recently noticed that I try out a lot of new things, without necessarily deciding whether they’re a favourite or not, that I’d like to share anyway. What do you think about me making monthly “updates” on different products, books, shows, youtube channels, e.t.c that I’m trying out but won’t necessarily end up on my monthly favourites? Leave a comment on weather that’s something I should try or not.

I’ve noticed that some of the low-waste, minimalist vloggers and bloggers that I’m following are deliberately starting off their favourites posts by listing their favourites that are not physical items, so I’m going to follow that route. It’s important to enjoy things that aren’t products, and I’m trying to consume less and be more mindful about my purchases, so I really like that idea.

I’ve really been enjoying the show Speechless recently. It’s short, cute and funny. I was lucky enough to see Hidden Figures in cinema, and it blew me away! It’s one of my all-time favourite movies and I highly recommend it. I wrote a post about why I loved watching it, that you can find here.

On YouTube, I’ve really been into watching art and watercolour painting videos. They are so, so relaxing to watch. One of my favourite channels this month is Minnie Small. She recently hit 100 000 subscribers, which is really great! I know I’m late to the party, since Glam Life Guru Tati has been around for ages on YouTube, but I only recently discovered her and I am in love. She’s brutally honest, loves a good drugstore product and is just so funny. If you aren’t watching her make-up videos yet, then you’re missing out.

Listening to

The artist LP has the perfect music for autumn/fall. If you like listening to Hozier, you’ll like LP. Her music is just…wow. Go listen to “Lost On You” and see if you disagree that her music is fantastic and needs to be heard by everyone.

Glass Animals is a band that’s more commonly known than LP, but still quite indie. I also like their music for autumn, since it’s got the right vibe. It’s fun and a little haunting at the same time.

When I want to listen to something a bit more upbeat, I like to listen to New Politics. They are a Danish band, so their singing can be heavily accented and their lyrics aren’t amazing, but their music is really fun to listen to if you’re in to rock. Speaking of rock, my favourite band, The Maine, has released some new songs that I’ve absolutely addicted to. Bad Behavior is such a fun song by them that I am enjoying a lot.

I’m actually thinking of making an Autumn 2017 playlist that I might share? I don’t have Spotify in South Africa, so I might just make a YouTube or written playlist. I’m not very musical, but making playlists is a lot of fun for me so let me know in the comments if you’d like one!

I didn’t read many books this month and I am behind on my reviews (sorry). I spent a lot of time reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngoza Adichie and it is my favourite book for the month.

I also really enjoyed reading Our Chemical Hearts. It was a very sweet, contemporary YA that was a pleasant read, but didn’t really have a big impact on me.

In my January Favourites post, I mentioned that I liked the African Extracts moisturizer. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite agree with my skin this month (I later realised it was because I was using products intended for oily skin, whereas I have dry skin). My skin had a bunch of breakouts recently due to hormonal changes, and it’s weird dry patches, so I started using the Hey Gorgeous Banish & Repair Moisturiser and it has been working really well. I might switch to something lighter, since my breakouts are better under control now. Hey Gorgeous products are also all cruelty-free and made in South Africa, which makes me very comfortable supporting them!

This shouldn’t come as a surprise but this month, I’ve got another Yardley Stayfast Lipstick as a favourite. The shade Vixen is everything I need as an autumn lip colour. I think I have at least four of these Yardley lipsticks now.

Two of my other beauty favourites are the Yardley Oatmeal pressed powder in the shade Medium, and their Oatmeal 2-in-1 Blemish Stick (I wear the shade Toast). The pressed powder is a little too dark to be used as a finishing powder for me, but it’s just the right tone for me to use as a contour. I’m not skilled enough to pull off an intense contour, but this powder gives an effect that I really like. The Blemish Stick is my go-to concealer, especially for my under-eyes. It colour-corrects my dark circles and stays in place, unlike any other concealer I’ve tried. It’s also got tea tree oil, which makes it smell really nice. Because I love Yardley products so much, I’ve included some of them in the giveaway!

(This giveaway and post is not sponsored or in collaboration with Yardley – I just really like their products).

I’ve also been using an old favourite. This small, Revlon Colourstay eyeshadow kit which has the nicest autumn tones. I only really wear eyeshadow if I’m going out somewhere (my daily make-up is eyeliner, concealer and lipstick), but I’ve worn this palette a lot this month. It’s easy, stays in place, and looks really pretty. Make-up needs to be easy for me, and this eyeshadow is really easy. It’s an old palette, so I don’t know if it’s still available, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.

I got these new Oxford shoes from Spree! They’re black, shiny and comfortable. I needed some closed shoes for the colder weather, and these delivered.

My other favourite accessory is this scarf that I stole from my mom. The floral print is cheerful, but the colours are very seasonal. It also matches with basically everything, which I love. I’ve definitely been wearing it a lot!

I hope that you found lots of good recommendations in my March Favourites. Let me know in the comments what your favourites were! As you can tell from the title of this post, I’m having a giveaway! The giveaway is in collaboration with my sister, who blogs at Check out her blog, or the instagram post below, for the giveaway details!
